Centurions Drawing on Home Talents In Search Of Maiden Squash Super League Crown

Just one fixture now stands between the Chichester Centurions and the inaugural Optasia Squash Super League title, with the Sussex-based team taking on the Leamington Royals in the Grand Final this Friday night.

The Centurions have enjoyed a season to remember over the last nine months, with the team losing just one of their six fixtures and finishing tied on points with the Royals at the top of the table – ultimately finishing in second position due to the single loss recorded at the hands of the St George’s Hill Knights.

The likes of English rising stars Jonah Bryant and Katie Malliff, combined with the experience of Tim Vail and Oliver Pett, have seen the Centurions prove a tough team to overcome.

Speaking prior to the Grand Final, which will be available to watch for free on SQUASHTV, Chichester Club Captain Tim Vail, said: “Chichester are very much looking forward to the final in Winchester.

“Chichester never won the old PSL league, so this would be amazing to win this brand new league at the first attempt.”

“Unfortunately, our number one male player, Grégoire Marche, tore his hamstring in the French league finals, so he is unavailable. Luckily, we have Curtis Malik to call upon, who is coming back from injury.”

Throughout the season, the Centurions called upon a number of homegrown talents in their quest for the inaugural title.

Friday night is no exception, with four of the five players named in the Centurions’ squad local Sussex players. Joining Egypt’s World No.15 Salma Hany in the team to take on the Royals will be Curtis and Torrie Malik, Noah Meredith, and Club Hero Pett.

“Chichester have always tried to support local talent and we are pleased to have four Sussex players representing us in the final,” Vail said.

“The home matches have been amazing throughout the season. Sell-out crowds of just over 100. Lots of juniors watching and having a session with our pros beforehand has been great.”

The Grand Final gets underway tomorrow (Friday, 20th June) from Winchester Racquets & Fitness Club. Play gets underway from 7pm and is available to watch live and for free on SQUASHTV.

If you do miss out on the action, full replays of the Grand Final will also be available after the event on the England Squash YouTube Channel.
