World No.12 Jasmine Hutton will line up for the St George’s Hill Knights in the Grand Final of the Optasia Squash Super League this Thursday, with the 27-year-old looking to help her team defeat the Leamington Royals and lift their first title.
Playing on her home court at St George’s Hill Lawn & Tennis Club, a venue where she lifted her second British National Championship title in 2023, Hutton will line up alongside Joel Makin, David Bernet, Asia Harris and Miles Jenkins as the Knights look to topple the defending champions.
We spoke to the England No.2 ahead of her maiden Grand Final to hear her thoughts on competing in the Squash Super League and her 25/26 season on the PSA Tour.
How much are you looking forward to your first Squash Super League Grand Final?
“I’m really looking forward to my first Grand Final.
“We missed out last year, so to make it through this year is just great. It’s great for everyone associated with the team and the club in general.”
You compete in tournaments and leagues all over the world. How does the Squash Super League compare with the rest of your calendar?
“Yeah, it’s a busy season for sure, but I always love coming back and playing SSL.
“Playing competitively in the UK is something that I always love to do because I’m away a lot, so I find it really special when I come home and can play in front of friends and family.”
Speaking of your season, it’s been another positive one for you. What have been the highlights for you, and how do you reflect on the 25/26 campaign?
“Yeah, on the whole, it’s been a good season. I’ve reached my highest World Ranking of No.12 and broken through a bit of a barrier, I feel.
“I won my biggest title in Germany too at the Hamburg Open, so it felt good to finally get over the line in a World Event and get my hands on silverware.
“I felt as though a tournament like that was coming as I’d been playing well, so I was both relieved and happy to see that the work had paid off and I’m doing the right things.”
Now that the PSA season is over, what will your summer look like and have you set any goals for next season already?
“Yeah, so I’ll probably take a little bit of time off after the Grand Final and just let my body recover after a long, tough season. Then I’ll get myself back on court and in the gym and try to work on a few technical aspects of my game, as well as working on the physical side too.
“I’ve not set any really specific goals for next season just yet, but I’d love to have a good go at breaking into the top 10. I’m not far off it now, and it’s been a goal for a long time, so to break that would be great. And I guess to claim more big wins against the top players and win more titles.”
