The 2025/26 season has been one to remember for the Leamington Royals’ Sam Todd, with the 23-year-old rising to a career-high World No.36, capturing his biggest-ever title at the Irish Open and representing England at the recent European Team Championships.
Todd, who made his Squash Super League debut earlier this season for the defending champions, Leamington Royals, has been named in his team’s line-up for the Grand Final against St George’s Hill Knights this Thursday (25th June) from 7pm.
Prior to the Grand Final, we spoke to Todd to get his thoughts on competing in the Squash Super League, his brilliant season on the PSA Tour, and the success he enjoyed with the England National Team.
How much are you looking forward to your first SSL Grand Final?
“I’m really excited to be playing in the SSL Grand Final.
“This is my first season playing in the SSL, so to be in the final with the team is amazing, and a credit to the whole team for getting us here with a chance to win it.”
What is it about the SSL nights that has attracted you to play?
“I think it’s just a great league for everyone involved.
“The players get good quality matches, always played in the right spirit. The clubs get great numbers in to watch, and the fans create such a great atmosphere that just makes it a really exciting night of squash.”
“Yeah, it has! I started the season ranked around 70 in the world and have finished it ranked inside the top 40.
“The further up you go, the harder it is to make those jumps, so I’m very pleased with where I’ll be starting next season.”
You also joined an illustrious list of champions by winning the Irish Open. How special was that win?
“Yeah, that was a really big win for me and one that I’ll probably look back on forever, regardless of what else I achieve in the game.
“I was playing well all week, the court suited me, and again, the crowd was fantastic and really made a great environment for us to play in.”
You also made your senior England debut at the European Team Championships earlier this year? How was that for you?
“Yeah, that was amazing. Another goal that I had wanted to acheive for a while now so I was very happy when that call from Stuart came through.
“I’ve obviously experienced that type of team element before in the juniors, but to represent England in the senior game was really special, and hopefully I can be in the squad for many more Europeans and Worlds to come.”
