Knights Retain British Stars Makin & Hutton

The St. George’s Hill Knights have retained a strong homegrown core for the upcoming Optasia Squash Super League season, with British stars Joel Makin and Jasmine Hutton returning to lead the team in their search for the title.

With elite international class, home-club heroes, and next-generation ambition all represented, the 25/26 St. George’s Hill Knights squad has all the ingredients for another powerful title push.

Speaking ahead of the new season, Team Captain Miles Jenkins said:

“With many of our athletes having deep ties to the club – and several of our pros choosing St George’s as their training base – the squad’s unity and shared identity are stronger than ever.

“The impact of the Squash Super League on our community has been nothing short of transformational. Our SSL match nights now sell out regularly, with nearly 100 spectators packing into the all-glass show court to witness elite squash up close.

“For our juniors, the league has been particularly inspiring. The pre-match pro mix-ins and coaching interactions have become a highlight of the season – giving young players a chance to hit with world-ranked professionals, ask questions, and see their sporting heroes in action. These moments have created a tangible buzz around the club and helped build the next generation of St George’s talent.

“We’re thrilled to be competing in the SSL again this year, made possible thanks to the generous support of our member sponsors.

“Last season, St George’s came agonisingly close to reaching the finals, with several narrow defeats ultimately deciding our campaign. This year, the squad is hungry to put things right. With strengthened depth, renewed determination, and a loyal crowd behind us, we’re aiming to push all the way to the final stages – and compete for the prestigious league title.

Squad: The Breakdown

Spearheading the St. George’s Hill Knights title charge will be Men’s World No.5 Joel Makin – a nine-time winner on the PSA Tour and a three-time British National Champion.

Makin has been in some of the form of his life over the last 18 months, winning his first major title at the 24/25 PSA Squash Tour Finals, and regularly challenging the world’s best, such as Mostafa Asal, Diego Elias, and the now-retired Ali Farag. The Welshman is a world-class talent and enjoyed some brilliant battles last season against the likes of Mazen Hesham, Mohamed Abouelghar and Gregoire Marche.

Fellow two-time British National Champion Jasmine Hutton will line up for the Knights as the Women’s Pro and will return in some strong form, having recently reached a career-high rank of World No.16.

Over the last 12 months, Hutton has continued her rise as one of the most dangerous left-handers on the world stage. Her explosive hitting and creative attacking style make her perfectly suited to the Squash Super League’s high-octane best-of-three format.

The Knights’ identity is reinforced by the return of two of St. George’s Hill’s favourite homegrown players, Miles Jenkins and Charlie Lee.

Recently retired Lee, a St George’s favourite and club member for over a decade, returns to the Knights alongside team captain Jenkins, head squash coach at St. George’s Hill Lawn Tennis Club. The pair were a hit in the opening season of action and will be sure to draw in the home crowds in Weybridge.

Adding further firepower to the Knights’ ranks will be Asia Harris and Will Salter, the club’s U25 talents and two of England’s rising talents on the squash circuit.
