Leamington Beat Bristol to Go Top

Leamington Royals have gone top of the Optasia Squash Super League after beating Bristol Buccaneers on an action-packed night.

The Royals won three of their four matches on the night to usurp Chichester Centurions at the top of the standings, with just one point separating both teams.

The Royals were prevented from making it a clean sweep of victories by Buccaneers captain Mohamed ElShorbagy, who overcame fellow Englishman Declan James in the final match of the evening.

By that time, however, The Royals had already sealed the win, with victories for Satomi Watanabe over Rachel Arnold, Sam Osborne Wylde over Jared Carter and Ben Smith over Darren Pragasm resulting in a fine evening for The Royals.

The Centurions lost their spot at the summit of the table after falling to a defeat against a formidable St George’s Hill Knights

The evening got off to the perfect start as Oliver Pett overcame Knights captain Miles Jenkins early on, but wins for Will Salter, Jasmine Hutton and Joel Makin saw Knights fight back to secure a victory which sees them stay third in the table but close the gap to three points on The Centurions.

The closest fixture of the night saw last placed Bexley Ballers draw with Coolhurst Cavaliers, but they did pick up the bonus point from the tie by virtue of winning more games throughout tonight’s four matches.

It was all to play for after The Cavaliers came back from a match down to lead 2-1, with Simon Herbert and Sarah-Jane Perry striking for the team after Joe Green had lost to Dylan Roberts in the evening’s first match.

However, Frenchman Baptiste Masotti produced an assured performance to upset Marwan ElShorbagy, securing the bonus point for the Ballers, who won five games to The Cavaliers four tonight.
