England Squash has announced that the Optasia Squash Super League, the groundbreaking UK-based team competition showcasing top international stars and local homegrown talent, will make its much-anticipated return on Friday 19th December.
Following a thrilling debut season that saw packed-out venues, vibrant local crowds and global audiences tuning in from over 30 countries worldwide, the league will once again reunite a number of the sport’s top-ranked players, including Mohamed ElShorbagy, Joel Makin, Georgina Kennedy, Satomi Watanabe, Karim Gawad and up-and-coming English star Jonah Bryant.
Optasia, the title sponsor of the prestigious PSA Squash Tour Gold-level Optasia Championships, will return as the league’s title sponsor, while several new household names are set to be unveiled in the respective team line-ups over the coming weeks.

With defending champions Leamington Royals returning to fend off their fierce challengers from last year, and newcomers Crawley Magic looking to shake up the league, the second season of action promises rivalries and surprises at every turn.
Joining the Royals and Magic among the five star-studded teams will be last year’s runners-up, Chichester Centurions, as well as Bristol Bucaneers and St George’s Hill Knights.
Last year, fans were treated to a blockbuster Grand Final which saw the Royals crowned champions after defeating the Centurions in a dramatic final-leg decider – a finale which has set the tone for rematches and new rivalries to develop over the upcoming season.

Fans can once again look forward to seeing an exciting blend of household names and future stars battle it out over five action-packed nights between December and April. The subsequent Grand Final in June – which will be hosted by one of the clubs not competing in the final – will follow for the top two placed teams from the league phase.
The league will once again feature a signature fast-paced best-of-three format, enhanced by a sudden-death scoring system that keeps every match on a knife-edge and guarantees unmissable drama from start to finish.
Each game night will see world-class squash brought directly into the heart of local communities, with every host venue staging junior coaching clinics and Bronze tournaments prior to matches taking place.

Fans from around the world will once again be able to watch every moment live and for free on SQUASHTV, with the league remaining the only squash league around the world to be broadcast on the PSA’s streaming platform.
The inaugural season attracted close to 50,000 viewers from all across the globe, confirming the league as one of the most engaging new formats in world squash.
Speaking ahead of the new season, World No.10 Mohamed ElShorbagy said:
“I’m really excited to return and play in the Squash Super League. Last year I was so excited to play league squash in England again, and I’m really looking forward to play in front of the local English crowds again.”
Leamington Royals’ World No.7 Satomi Watanabe added:
“I’m really excited for 2nd season of SSL. It was a great season last year with its unique rules, which brought excitement to the league. The Royals won last season as well, so we will go for another trophy!”

Defending British National Champion and current World No.5 Joel Makin said:
“There were some great nights last season with clubs packed with a lively atmosphere getting to see world-class squash at local clubs. I’m looking forward to being back playing SSL again for St George’s Hill Knights.”
Joey Barrington, England Squash Membership and Commercial Partnerships Manager, said:
“On behalf of England Squash, I’d like to extend our thanks to title sponsor Optasia, along with partners Aspect Capital, Expression Networks, and adidas, for their invaluable support. I’d also like to thank all the clubs involved for helping make the Squash Super League’s return possible.”
Founder of Optasia, Bassim Haidar said:
“The Optasia Squash Super League has proven itself to be very successful in its inaugural year and will continue to build, showcasing PSA superstars live on SQUASHTV. Optasia look forward to supporting this exciting venture for a second season.”
